For months, some would say years, the prospect of a split in Bitcoin has hung over the markets like a dank fog in a swamp. Well this week the split happened and it was an unexpectedly boring event. I sat up to watch the block split event live and even recorded the countdown to the split, it was historical but not riveting ‘TV’.
More interesting will be the next 12-18 months as the two camps (Bitcoin v Bitcoin Cash) fight each other…to the death. The weapons are the hash power of the miners, the quality of the coders working on the projects and the social media battles that are currently being fought on twitter and reddit.
Will there be one sole survivor or with there be two Bitcoins forever, like there are Ethereum and Ethereum Classic (which split 2 years ago)? We won’t know for quite some time yet.
